Garment Care

WASH LESS, WASH RIGHT AND PASS YOUR GARMENTS ON. AT STINE GOYA WE CREATE DELICATE GARMENTS MEANT TO LAST A LONG TIME. IN ORDER FOR THEM TO DO SO, IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE MINDFUL OF HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THEM. IF WE TAKE BETTER CARE OF OUR CLOTHES, WE CAN INCREASE THEIR LIFETIME BY REUSING AND RECYCLING THEM – THEREBY REDUCING EACH OF OUR PERSONAL IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT.

THE BEST WAY TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR CLOTHES WILL VARY FROM GARMENT TO GARMENT, WHICH IS WHY IT IS ESSENTIAL TO ALWAYS READ THE CARE LABEL CAREFULLY BEFORE WASHING. THAT BEING SAID, WE HAVE COLLECTED SOME GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR YOU TO ADHERE TO, TO EXTEND THE LIFE CYCLE OF YOUR GARMENTS.

How to take care of your clothes

- Ventilate your clothes as much as possible instead of washing them after every use.

- Wash your garments at as low temperatures as possible, either by hand or in a gentle cycle, low spin washing programme.

- Protect your delicate pieces in laundry bags when washing them in the machine.

- Air dry your clothes instead of putting them in the dryer – not only is this less rough on your clothes, it also uses less energy.

- When detecting a stain, use stain removal on the specific spot instead of washing the whole garment.
- Choose an environmentally friendly dry cleaner.

- If your garment breaks, try to fix the issue instead of simply replacing the garment.

-When you are done with the garment, give others a chance to buy it second hand or donate it.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ VISCOSE (INSTEAD OF VISCOSE)

WHAT IS LENZING™ ECOVERO™ VISCOSE?

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ VISCOSE IS DERIVED FROM CERTIFIED WOOD SOURCES USING AN ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCTION PROCESS GENERATING UP TO 50% LOWER EMISSIONS AND WATER IMPACT COMPARED TO REGULAR VISCOSE. LENZING VISCOSE IS CERTIFIED WITH THE RECOGNIZED EU ECOLOABEL BECAUSE OF ITS SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT THROUGHOUT ITS FULL LIFE CYCLE.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF LENZING™ ECOVERO™ VISCOSE?

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ VISCOSE SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF IN THE SAME WAY AS REGULAR VISCOSE. PLEASE READ BELOW.

TENCEL™

WHAT IS TENCEL™?

TENCEL™ IS MADE FROM THE NATURAL CELLULOSE FOUND IN WOOD PULP. THE FIBER IS ECONOMICAL IN ITS USE OF ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES, AND IS FULLY BIODEGRADABLE.

TENCEL™ IS PRODUCED VIA AN ADVANCED ‘CLOSED LOOP’ SOLVENT SPINNING PROCESS, WITH MINIMAL IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMICAL USE OF ENERGY AND WATER.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF TENCEL™?

MOST GARMENTS MADE FROM TENCEL™ CAN BE MACHINE WASHED USING THE GENTLE CYCLE. DELICATE FABRICS MAY BE HAND-WASHED IN COLD WATER WITH A GENTLE DETERGENT.

ORGANIC COTTON (INSTEAD OF COTTON)

WHAT IS ORGANIC COTTON?

COTTON IS A NATURAL AND RENEWABLE FIBRE SOURCED FROM THE BOLL OF THE COTTON PLANT. ORGANIC COTTON IS GROWN WITHOUT THE USE OF TOXIC PESTICIDES AND FERTILISERS, PROTECTING THE HEALTH OF ECOSYSTEMS AND THE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE PRODUCTION PROCESS. DESPITE ACCOUNTING FOR ONLY 2.4% OF GLOBAL AGRICULTURAL OUTPUT, NON-ORGANIC COTTON ACCOUNTS FOR 24% OF THE WORLD’S INSECTICIDE USE AND 11% OF PESTICIDES. GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD (GOTS) TRACES THE ORGANIC CONTENT AND ENTIRE PROCESS OF COTTON PRODUCTION TO ENSURE THE MATERIAL IS PROCESSED ETHICALLY AND SUSTAINABLY. ONLY MATERIALS WHICH CONTAIN A MINIMUM OF 75% NATURAL FIBRES CAN BE CONSIDERED FOR THE GOTS CERTIFICATION.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF ORGANIC COTTON?

GARMENTS MADE FROM ORGANIC AND REGULAR COTTON ARE USUALLY EASY TO WASH. AS IT IS THE CASE WITH ALL OF OUR STYLES, HAND WASHING IS PREFERRED, BUT A GENTLE 30 DEGREES CYCLE ON YOUR MACHINE WILL DO AS WELL. USE COLD WATER WHEN WASHING YOUR COTTON GARMENTS IN ORDER TO PREVENT THEM FROM SHRINKING. TUMBLE DRYING YOUR COTTON GARMENTS MIGHT CAUSE THEM TO SHRINK AS WELL, WHICH IS WHY WE RECOMMEND YOU AIR DRY THEM HANGING INSTEAD.

RECYCLED POLYESTER (INSTEAD OF POLYESTER)

WHAT IS RECYCLED POLYESTER?

RECYCLED POLYESTER IS MADE FROM OLD PLASTIC BOTTLES, INDUSTRIAL POLYESTER WASTE AND OLD GARMENTS. THIS PROCESS REDUCES THE AMOUNT OF WASTE GOING TO LANDFILLS, PRODUCES LESS AIR POLLUTION AND REDUCES DEPENDENCE ON PETROLEUM AS A NECESSARY RAW MATERIAL. THE PROCESS CREATES 75% LESS CO2 EMISSIONS THAN VIRGIN POLYESTER.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF RECYCLED POLYESTER?

RECYCLED POLYESTER SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF IN THE SAME WAY AS REGULAR POLYESTER. PLEASE READ BELOW.

Silk

WHAT IS SILK?

SILK IS A NATURAL MATERIAL SPUN FROM THE COCOONS OF SILKWORMS. ITS BREATHABLE AND LIGHTWEIGHT QUALITIES MAKE IT SOFT AGAINST THE SKIN AND AS A NON-CONDUCTOR OF HEAT, SILK GARMENTS CAN KEEP YOU COOL IN SUMMER. GARMENTS MADE FROM SILK WILL APPEAR AS DELICATE, FLUID AND ELEGANT.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF SILK?

EVEN THOUGH SILK IS SPUN FROM STRONG FIBRES, IT IS A DELICATE MATERIAL, WHICH IS WHY WE ALWAYS ADVISE YOU TO WASH IT BY HAND WITH MILD DETERGENT IN COLD OR LUKEWARM WATER. DO NOT SOAK OR TWIST SILK GARMENTS AS THIS CAN RELEASE DYE OR DAMAGE THE SHAPE. HANG LIGHT ITEMS TO AIR DRY AFTER WASH AND PLACE HEAVY ITEMS FLAT ON A DRYING RACK. IF YOU CHOOSE TO WASH YOUR SILK GARMENTS IN THE WASHING MACHINE, ALWAYS USE A GENTLE CYCLE WITH A LOW SPIN (MAX 800 RPM). SOME OF OUR SILK STYLES ARE MADE FROM EXCEPTIONALLY DELICATE SILK – IN THESE CASES WE RECOMMEND YOU TAKE THEM TO AN ECO-FRIENDLY DRY CLEANER.

VISCOSE

WHAT IS VISCOSE?

VISCOSE IS A PLANT-BASED MATERIAL MADE FROM REGENERATED CELLULOSE FIBRES FROM TREES SUCH AS PINE, BAMBOO AND EUCALYPTUS. AFTER DERIVATION, THE FIBRES ARE MANUFACTURED THROUGH CHEMICAL PROCESSES, FILTERED AND SPUN INTO FINE THREAD. AS A FABRIC, VISCOSE HAS GREAT COLOUR RETENTION AND DRAPES BEAUTIFULLY. WHEN WEARING GARMENTS MADE FROM VISCOSE, YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IT TO BE SOFT, SMOOTH AND BREATHABLE.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF VISCOSE?

VISCOSE IS A VERY VERSATILE MATERIAL. DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF VISCOSE, WE USUALLY RECOMMEND HANDWASHING THE GARMENT IN COLD OR LUKEWARM WATER OR WASH IT IN THE MACHINE IN A 30 DEGREES GENTLE CYCLE. HANG LIGHT ITEMS TO AIR DRY AFTERWARDS AND PLACE HEAVY ITEMS FLAT ON A DRYING RACK. SOMETIMES YOU WILL EXPERIENCE A SLIGHT SHRINKAGE AFTER WASHING YOUR VISCOSE GARMENT – BY STEAMING THE GARMENT, IT WILL REGAIN ITS ORIGINAL SIZE IF WASHED CORRECTLY.

POLYESTER

WHAT IS POLYESTER?

POLYESTER IS A MAN-MADE MATERIAL MADE FROM SYNTHETIC PLASTIC FIBRES. IT IS AN EASY MATERIAL TO WEAR AND CARE FOR AS IT RESISTANT TO STRETCHING, SHRINKING, WRINKLING AND IS EASILY WASHED. THIS GIVES GARMENTS MADE FROM POLYESTER THE POTENTIAL TO BE VERY LONG LASTING IF TREATED CORRECTLY.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF POLYESTER?

POLYESTER IS A SOLID MATERIAL MAKING IT EASY TO WASH IN MOST CASES. HANDWASHING IS ALWAYS THE MOST GENTLE WAY TO WASH YOUR GARMENTS, BUT USUALLY OUR POLYESTER STYLES CAN BE WASHED IN THE MACHINE IN A 30 DEGREES GENTLE CYCLE, OR IN SOME CASES, A REGULAR CYCLE DEPENDING ON THE COMPOSITION OF THE SPECIFIC GARMENT.

WOOL

WHAT IS WOOL?

WOOL IS A NATURALLY PRODUCED FIBRE SPUN OF ANIMAL FLEECE, USUALLY FROM SHEEP, WHICH MAKES IT A RENEWABLE FIBRE SOURCE. IT POSSESSES A LOT OF GREAT QUALITIES, AS IT ACTS AS A NATURAL INSULATOR, IS BREATHABLE AND RESILIENT. WOOL FIBRES ALSO POSSESS A NATURAL PROTECTIVE COATING MEANING GARMENTS MADE FROM WOOL DO NOT HAVE TO BE WASHED OFTEN.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF WOOL?

WE USE REGULAR, ALPACA AND MERINO WOOL IN OUR SWEATERS AND COATS. TAKING PROPER CARE OF YOUR WOOL GARMENT DEPENDS ON ITS SPECIFIC COMPOSITION OF MATERIALS, WHICH IS WHY IT IS ESSENTIAL TO READ THE CARE LABEL BEFORE WASHING. PILLING BY FRICTION IS A NATURAL PART OF WEARING WOOL FIBRES AND CAN BE REMOVED WITH A FABRIC SHAVER OR PILLING COMB TO MAKE THE GARMENT LOOK GREAT FOR LONGER. WE USUALLY RECOMMEND EITHER WASHING YOUR WOOL GARMENTS BY HAND OR USING A GENTLE MACHINE CYCLE AT 30 DEGREES WITH A LOW SPIN AND WOOL DETERGENT. ALWAYS DRY THE WOOL GARMENTS FLAT TO PREVENT THEM FROM STRETCHING OUT OF SHAPE. THE SAME GOES FOR STORAGE – KEEP YOUR WOOL PIECES FOLDED INSTEAD OF HANGING TO RETAIN THEIR SHAPE.
